| What is the CAEL Diagnostic? |
|
The purpose of the CAEL Diagnostic is to give test takers information about their strengths and weaknesses in English. It is a "diagnosti" test. Test takers can use the information from the test to help them both to prepare to take the CAEL Assessment and to identify the English skills and strategies that need further development.
When test takers take the CAEL Diagnostic they receive information about the skills or strategies in academic reading, listening and writing. The written report will identify which skills and strategies they will need to improve. They also learn which skills and strategies are working well. Test takers may receive immediate feedback on their performance, because the test can be marked by the test administrator on the spot.
Testimonial:
"The CAEL Diagnostic maintains the academic focus of the CAEL Assessment but presents it in a less intimidating format, while still requiring students at lower levels of proficiency to perform the same kinds of tasks as on the Assessment but without causing test takers to feel as though the test has been over-simplified.
We have been using the Diagnostic as the placement test for lower-level students over the past year and have found it to be a very reliable gauge of students' abilities."
Lindsay Taylor, Assistant Director
Saint John College, University of New Brunswick
The CAEL Diagnostic is used for learning purposes only. It cannot be used for admission to university or college programs. In some language programs CAEL Diagnostic scores may be used to place students at different levels of the program.
